The draft plan describes the the ‘Epicenter of the Village’s Historic District’ as the area of the intersection of Saterlee, Spring and East Main Streets – yet the plan proposes a community center in Zion Park along with additional housing and commercial? The plan addresses ‘Historic Neighborhoods, a 90 acre historic district and an historic Village Identity’ yet new housing on Andrews would hardly meet the historic character of the neighborhood – especially with a parking lot and community center as a back yard. You can’t have it both ways. I live on Andrews Place and like the other three homeowners on that small street – we have invested to bring these old homes back to a state of beauty and functionality – yet we will lose the ambiance of the historic neighborhood (and the Village will lose tax revenue as the property values decrease)in an effort to change the very character describing the Village!! I liked Mr. Valdati’s idea to buy the development rights from the Zion Church. I think the Village should be looking to restrict the development rights of the Zion Park – not promote them as one of the key elements for Village improvement. Seriously – do you think they are going to build comparable homes that fit in with the character of the neighborhood? You would be eliminating one of the aspects of the Village that makes it endearing – it is not a City – it is a charming green space Village. I am not saying it does not need improvement – but to completely change the character of the Village would be a huge mistake.
